Fellow Flatrockers,
Our first attempt at the October competition
round was postponed due to messy conditions, however, our
persistence paid off with this month's round held in clean
one metre waves off the point and along the beach. See Wazza's
report for the full wrap.
Don't forget for the benefit of members
there is now a free classifieds section at the end of the
newsletter, so if you have any surfing gear to sell simply
email your free listing to the secretary.
Hope to see you all at the next comp round!
Club Secretary,
Chris Bull
PRESIDENT/CAPTAIN'S REPORT
Can you believe it - we actually got to
hold another monthly competition, our 5th for the year.
Flaty was actually in a good mood for once. Light offshore
winds, 3 to 4 feet of surf & best of all no crowds.
It was enough to put a smile on your face. Good to see Kirk
back in the surf with us.
Only 2 comps remaining so lets hope for
a good roll up for the last two competitions as well as
some surf. Points are up for grabs in the run home for club
trophies. This year we will be giving trophies for the winners
of each of the 4 divisions.
Our next social function is at the Mai
Thai at Lennox on the 14th of November. I will need numbers
at the November comp so check your social calendars &
let me know at the comp. We will try again at the November
comp to get some idea of T/shirt numbers.
Unfortunately due to all the disruptions
this year we have been unable to finalize the shirts.
Again due to the uncertainty of the comps
this year we have not held as many BBQ as liked but weather
& surf permitting we will rectify this at the November
comp. with a big cook up. WAZZA

SOCIAL CALENDAR
A small group of members and partners met at
the Ballina RSL Club on Friday September 19th for a tasty meal
and a chat. Topics of conversation varied from the poor surfing
conditions to planned tripS abroad. Brian and Susanne Fry are
traveling to South America for two months. Now that sounds like
the trip of a lifetime! Perhaps we might here more about their
trip in a future newsletter?
Our next social outing is the Mai Thai restaurant
in Lennox Head on Friday November 14th at 6:30PM. This night is
always a great night with alfresco dining on the sidewalk a little
unique and quite comfortable on a warm evening. For booking purposes
we will need to know attendance numbers prior to the evening and
Wazza has asked for numbers at the November comp round. Please
email the secretary
if you plan to attend. Hope to see you all there!
See the Club
Calendar page for full details of all our planned social activities.

JIM DEVLIN MEMORIAL INTER-CLUB CHALLENGE
Our club is entering a full team in this event
held at Wategoes on 19th October. Starts 8:00AM.
1. Team - It's fantastic to see such a high level of interest
from our members wishing to participate in this event. We now
have the required 15 names. Thanks to all members who have raised
their hands.
2. Food - Each club is taking it's own tents, food, and drinks.
Given the logistical nightmare of our club providing food when
members will most likely not stay for the entire day we decided
to ask members to bring their own food and drinks.
3. Car Pooling - Due to the restricted parking at Wategoes it
makes sense to car pool where convenient. Bruce Wilson has kindly
volunteered to pickup in Ballina around 7:15AM, interested members
can contact Bruce on Ph: (02) 6628 0333 Mob: 0427 789 331.

surf we have organised our own club draw as follows:

See you there. Go team!
WOOLGOOLGA LONGBOARD CLUB - 2008 INDIVIDUAL
TITLES & TEAMS CHALLENGE
We received an invitation for this event from
the Woolgoolga Longbaord Club. While I don't think we have time
to organsie a team, members may like to enter individually. See
the calendar page
for the entry form.
Our next club round is on Sunday 2nd
November.

model with Greenough phase V 12" flex single fin.
- 9'4" Tom Wegener wooden pintail, "Anna" model,
wooden striped single fin with beading. The wood is Paulownia,
20 % heavier than balsa but hydrophobic. The extra weight is
offset by a 2" hollow chamber through the length of the

Park at Lennox Head on an incoming tide. It's a wave that is there
all the time and it has length of ride, just ask Chris Lorraway.
FAVOURITE FOOD: bbq steak, baked vegetables and a good bottle
cab sauv.
FAVOURITE ACTIVITY (BESIDES SURFING): traveling and photography.
REASON FOR JOINING THE CLUB: To join others who are in denial
of losing their surfing ability and still have a love of being
in the surf on a longer board.
TRAVEL REPORT
None this month - please email the secretary
if you have an interesting story.
CLUB SHIRTS
The
club is considering ordering new team shirts for members to wear
at inter-club competition rounds. The intention is to raise our
profile and perhaps even attract new members. The cost per shirt
is estimated to be $30. Most members think it's a good idea and
are willing to purchase a shirt each.
Problem: We cannot decide on the style ie. Polo
or T-shirt and some members don't like the current logo. From
a branding point of view It makes sense to be consistent with
our club logo. I know of 4 or 5 different designs used over the
years. We should choose one logo and stick with it. We have a
sign now with the logo to the right, we need to agree if this
logo will appear on our shirts and if we want polo or t-shirt
style. Please provide your feedback to the secretary.
NEWSLETTER & NEW WEB SITE
The club has a new web site – www.ballinamalibuclub.org.
All the club newsletters can now be accessed via the web site
and either viewed online or downloaded in a format suitable for

of the new web site and register their email address. Members
without an email address will still receive a printed copy via
surface mail.
